Liberals nearly 5x as conservatives to self-identify as gay or bisexual

Blog tagline maintenance:

Liberals are nearly five times as likely (465%) to be gay or bisexual as conservatives are. While 7.9% of liberals (1,240) are intimately interested in members of the same sex, just 1.7% of conservatives (n = 2,161) are.

GSS variables used: SEXORNT(1-2), POLVIEWS(1-2)(5-6)

There are a whole raft of mental illnesses which correlate with homosexuality, so why would anyone be surprised that liberalism isn't included in the correlation?

I put the string into the Selection Filter field and it comes back with an error message.

Surely this is partly due to the fact that conservatives have been on the side of not recognizing gay "marriage" over the last 15 years or so.

This is partly also due to the fact that a conservative who might have some gay inclinations is more likely to reject those than a liberal. The data of course shows that gay is not strictly innate that sexuality has an enormous amount of changeability. And many famous people (Mick Jagger, David Bowie, every starlet in the last decade) switch teams effortlessly, including from gay to straight. The fact that nobody with a voice points out the glaringly obvious is depressing to me. Doesn't anybody want to be a rebel?

Speaking of gays and conservatism, of course Milo Y. must be noted. He understands what dumber gays don't, which is that if you want to rebel in this era, be conservative.

Interestingly it is my understanding that liberals managed to wreak homosexuality, just as they wreak everything else. If Milo Y. and a few others are to be believed, the big appeal of it, a rebellious and separate subculture, is lost.

To bad for almost everyone, with eyes that cannot see, who miss the great show.

homossexuality, degeneracy...

lol,

tango, one of this pseudo-geniuses of hbb,

creativity correlate with a lot of mental illness...

'cause libs are on average dumb, doesn't mean that conservs will be on average smarter, is not a dichotomy ''oil versus water''. There are a lot of knotty dimensions between libs and cons.

degeneracy is someone see value in a bible OR koran, the jooische slavedom.

the average conservs are super dumb, literal readers of sacred bubble.

Most of homos are libs in Uass, or in any other weshtern nation, because democ-ratz as well other oligarkike-collectivistic political parties supposedly defend ''homo rights''. By obvious reason, the idiotic conservs want treated 'homos'' as sick while libs use them as useful idiots against middle murrica and other white middle's.

Many smart people choice for socialism because obvious reasons too,

- atheism**

- non-human animal rights**

- individual (human) rights***

- equality against hierarchy** (almost of social hierachies are imoral).

Superficially, very superficially speaking, leftoidism look very much better than conservoitism.

TangoMan,

Touche. I'm not.

Anonymous,

Put SEXORNT in Row: and put POLVIEWS(1-2) in Selection Filter(s):, then hit enter. That will generate the sexual orientation distribution for liberals.

Leave SEXORNT alone and put POLVIEWS(5-6) in Selection Filter(s):, then hit enter. That will generate the same for conservatives.

Dan,

I've seen it asserted that the prevalence of lesbianism is more socially/culturally contingent than male homosexuality is. The GSS, however, shows that in 1989 (the first year sexual partners were inquired about by the sex of each partner) 6.2% of men had ever had sex with another man, and 6.0% of women had ever had 'sex' with another woman. In 2014, those figures were 9.3% and 8.9%, respectively. The trend has been one of gentle increase in homosexuality at an equivalent rate for both men and women. Sample sizes are huge, too.

The GSS sample is never that big for any one year. In any case, is this ~3% more who are doing it, or ~3% more who are admitting it?

That might also partially explain the political skew. I think it's real, but probably not as pronounced as you're seeing here (e.g., Ted Haggard, Larry Craig).

Jayman,

Perennial problems with self-reported data, yes, though the samples are in the multiple thousands for each year from the mid-nineties onward.

Do you suspect that blacks are actually more Republican/conservative than they let on (and that surveys and exit polls detect) for similar reasons?
