Height and intelligence

The GSS provides another data point supporting the moderate correlation between height and intelligence. In 2014, the survey queried respondents on their personal heights for the first time. The following table shows mean IQ (converted from wordsum scores with an assumed national average of 98 and standard deviation of 15) by height. To avoid racial and sexual confounding, only white men are considered (n = 306):

Both traits are presumably marginally influenced by a large number of different genes. I'd guess genes that correlate with intelligence and that correlate with height also both tend to correlate with other broader measures of general health.

On Andys and Benders

Heartiste recently pointed to Bender from The Breakfast Club as "possibly the most iconic charismatic alpha male jerkboy in pre-post-America movie history". Judd Nelson's character is more than just an onscreen embodiment of jerkboy characteristics, he also serves as a great illustration of why so many traditionalists are antagonistic towards the concept, and more importantly the celebration of the application, of Game. Parenthetically, I use the term "traditionalist" here to broadly define those who have some level of antipathy towards the reigning ideology of egalitarianism and its offshoots of feminism, cultural Marxism, etc.

Bender is only an alpha when it comes to getting girls*. When he comes into conflict with Andy, a leader-of-men alpha male, he gets put in his place in a heartbeat:

The dissembling and self-puffery get sliced through like a hot knife slicing through butter. Strength, courage, honor, and mastery don't lend themselves well to fakery. They are there or they are not. This is how the pecking order is 'supposed' to be established, and for most of human history (and in much of the present, non-WEIRDO world) this is how it was (and is) established.

Game introduces a relatively new dynamic, and, somewhat paradoxically given how hostile its proponents are to modern feminism, it functions best in a feminized world. In the feminized, culturally Marxist modern West, it is increasingly difficult for Andy to put Bender in his place without landing an assault charge and a mandatory meeting with a representative from HR.

In the long run Claire would be better off with Andy than she would be with Bender. Life wouldn't be as thrilling, but she and her kids would have stability, material comfort, social respectability, and all the other markings of success in a civilized society. As a young woman discovering the potency of her budding sexual desirability, she's not in an ideal position to realize that. There is a reason that through most of human history young women had only a modest influence in determining who their mates would be.

Fortunately for those of a traditionalist bent, modern contraceptives are a sort of saving grace that will keep Claire and other women like her (with plenty of exceptions of course, especially among members of the lower classes) from spawning with the Benders of the world. Instead, she'll masturbate with street urchins through her late teens and twenties before settling in (and for) someone like Andy.

It's an open question as to how stable this state of affairs will remain. At the point in time when Andy decides to stop holding up the pillars of civilization and just walk away, the whole civilizational edifice will come crumbling down behind him.

* The alpha-beta dichotomy and its subsequent inversion creates a couple of alliterations that are just too cute to be intentional: Alpha Andy and Beta Bender!

Jews identify as white, not of color (Matthew Weiner not withstanding)

Matthew Weiner may think Jews are "of color", but most Jews don't appear to agree with him. Since its inception, the GSS has asked respondents about both religious affiliation and racial identification. Among Jews it shakes out as follows (n = 1,195):


This isn't merely a consequence of the perpetual battle between blacks and Jews over who is the most oppressed pushing Jews away from black identification. Since the turn of the millennium, the survey has included a more detailed question about racial identity that includes 16 possible answers rather than the survey's traditional three. Among Jews (n = 361), 95.3% chose "white". And of course some percentage of Jews who identify as non-white trace their ancestry back to places that virtually no one considers white, like Ethiopia.

These results are not the consequence of artificially separating religious Jews from from secular ethnic Jews, either. The following table provides a breakdown by theistic orientation among the Jewish sample referenced above:

While the assertion that Jews tend to identify as non-white may be the muttering of a madman (and surely of a mad man!), the assertion that the irreligious descendants of Jews tend to consider themselves to be Jewish is a reasonable one.

Theistic charity

The Pressure Project's most recent podcast showcased host Justin Garcia's responses to criticisms of his previously expressed atheism. One such criticism: "Still waiting for the St. Nobody's children's hospital to be built". Garcia dismisses this with equivocation, but the insinuation that there aren't differences in mean levels of altruism between the religious and the irreligious struck me as suspect for the obvious reason that the former are divinely instructed to partake in charitable giving while the latter are not.

Fortunately, the GSS has, since 2002, queried respondents four times on the frequency of charitable donations they've made in the past year. The percentages who have not made any charitable contributions in the last year by theistic orientation (n = 5,259):

There's a modest trend in the expected direction, with the more godly tending also to be the more giving. Again, not surprising given that charity is a recurring theme in the New Testament, one of the five pillars of Islam, a fundamental precept in Judaism (tzedakah), etc.

Whether that tendency is perceived as a magnanimous feature or a pathologically altruistic bug depends on how one reacts to the idea of Nietzche's slave and master moralities, and, more sinisterly, how homogeneous or heterogeneous one's community is.

Democrats and working-class whites

Thinking about the fate of working-class whites is, ahem, not in vogue, but since they do still constitute around one-third of the country's population (depending on the particulars of how they're defined), they can't simply be wished away--yet. The following graph shows the percentage of working-class white adults who have self-described themselves as Democrats since the GSS' inception through to the present:

The resurgent spike in 2008 sent a thrill up my leg.

As the fissures in the coalition of the fringe grow larger and sharper-edged, whites of modest means are the first to spill out and into the political void.

The key is to make sure they're vomited up at a slow and steady pace so that the national balance between the two parties remains roughly even. If whites defect too slowly, the Cathedral's paramount concerns can't be candidly brought to the fore without risking the kind of internecine fighting that characterizes its activity in major cities across the country, something that isn't too disruptive when the True Party is the only game in town, but that does have serious political implications so long as the Stupid Party is still around. On the other hand, if whites defect too quickly there is a chance that a racially-conscious opposition party might actually be able to act with numerical superiority.

Better to bide time and strike at overall parity as whites continue to dwindle into minority status so that by the time the inchoate idea of white political self-interest grows into something more broadly understood and even publicly articulated, it'll be too late for anything to come of it.

Let this be a reminder of how little time you and yours have left.

Crime doesn't pay (procreative dividends)

Pat Buchanan famously wrote that "historians may one day call 'the pill' the suicide tablet of the West". Looking at the sheer numbers, he seems to be on the mark.

I'm not much of an optimist, but I do have a detached sunny disposition, so perhaps we can find a silver lining. The GSS has queried respondents several times, most recently in 2012, on whether or not they have ever been arrested. Male privilege helps get a person cuffed, with 20.4% of adult men having ever been arrested compared to only 5.7% of women. Consequently, we'll be looking at men here, and to allow ample time for procreating to have occurred, we'll be looking at those aged 40-65. The trends subsequently discussed hold across racial lines.

As Heartiste has argued in one hundred different ways, chicks love badboys, and there is hardly a better indicator of badboy status than having had a run-in (or multiple run-ins) with the law. The GSS affirms as much. Among the one-in-five men who've been arrested, 22.1% report having sex no more than once a month and 57.3% report having sex at least once a week. Among the four-in-five men who've never been arrested, those figures are 29.7% and 43.5%, respectively. This sex frequency advantage among those who have been arrested exists despite the fact that arrestees are less likely to be married than men who have never been arrested are (68.6% to 84.7%). Jokes about marriage being a vow of celibacy aside, married people tend to have significantly* more sex than unmarried people do.

Prior to the onset of easily accessible modern contraceptives, this would've translated into badboys outbreeding the rest of the male population. Fortunately, the edge in sexual access doesn't translate into a realized procreative advantage. Men who have been arrested average 2.71 children. Men who haven't average a nearly identical 2.63.

Post-Christian America, part 3

We've seen that 1-in-5 Americans, and 1-in-3 among those under 30 years old, claim no religious affiliation. Similarly, we've seen that nearly half of all Americans (47% in 2014) and most of those under 30 (55%) do not attend worship services.

Lastly, let's take a look at how the percentages of those who are atheistic, agnostic, or vaguely theistic have changed over time. The data do not extend back as far for this item but most the secularizing shift has been more pronounced in the nineties and 2000s than it was in the seventies and eighties.

The atheistic, agnostic, and vaguely theistic categorizations are based on the following responses, respectively, to the command "Tell me which statement comes closest to expressing what you believe about God": "I don't believe in God", "I don't know whether there is a God and I don't believe there is any way to find out", and "I don't believe in a personal God, but I do believe in a higher power of some kind".

The following graph shows the percentages of respondents who are atheistic, agnostic, or vaguely theistic, for all respondents and for those under the age of 30, by year:

Not surprisingly, the results parallel quite closely those gauging a lack of religious affiliation over time, with 1-in-5 Americans (and 1-in-5 young adults) now believing in, at most, an undefined higher power.

Richie Fletcher

"A group of teens" (or alternatively, "juveniles") surrounds a man, aged 61, and beats him to within inches of his life in retaliation for his having asked a couple of them to stop fighting on top of his truck which was parked outside of his home at the time of the incident. The story notes that all of the attackers are from Baltimore Community High School (even though one of the assailants is 20 years old!) . Here is the racial breakdown of the school's student body:

Black -- 89%
White -- 7%
Hispanic -- 3%
Other -- 1%

The story doesn't mention the race of the victim (obviously white) or the race of the attackers (all black), but there are pictures.

This dreary stuff is hardly newsworthy, but despite the weariness it is necessary to publicize these more typical acts of violent criminality when they are in close proximity to the man-bites-dog stories that garner major media attention and sensationalization.

In response to a person who wrote:
I'm glad the organizers and presenters of this so called "art show" were fine with sacrificing the lives of police officers and anyone outside the community center while they were inside protected by the first amendment and the Garland TX swat team. Unbelievable that Americans would rather protect hate speech than American lives. I hope that Police officer that was shot sues the American Defense group that hosted this event.
Geller and the AFDI claimed the event was intended to promote free speech. There was, of course, no way they were unaware of the controversy they were courting, either. To the contrary, that was the point. It's intentionally provocative, baiting, and offensive. As someone who perceives honor as a virtue worth striving for, it's certainly not my cup of tea, but it is exactly the type of speech that needs protecting if any speech at all does. Polite words don't need a carapace.

Evelyn Hall's famous remark about Voltaire is especially relevant here:
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
As Jyllands-Posten penned in 2006:
"Free speech is free speech is free speech. There is no 'but'."
Nearly a decade later, Jyllands-Posten has changed its tune. In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo massacre, the paper didn't reprint any of the offensive imagery. The editorial board explained why:
"We have lived in fear of a terrorist attack for nine years, and yes, that is the explanation why we do not reprint the cartoons... We are also aware that we therefore bow to violence and intimidation."
Let's try and extract the subjective cultural and political emotions from this to get at the heart of the moral judgment itself. Consider George Tiller, the conspicuous abortion provider in Kansas who was murdered in 2009 by an anti-abortionist who viewed abortion as tantamount to murder. Tiller was quite involved in the political process--he was one of Kathleen Sebelius' top donors when she was governor of the state--and quite outspoken about the services he provided.

In other words, his public profile was comparable to Geller's (who most people hadn't heard of prior to this week). He could have been clandestine about the line of work that made him rich, but he wasn't. Terminating pregnancies was his raison d'etre.

So we have a Jewish critic of Islam encouraging people to draw pictures (deemed disrespectful by their simple existence) of the religion's primary prophet and we have an abortionist providing minors, even if lacking parental consent, with abortions right in the heart of red state America.

Although in the US abortion is, generally speaking, more morally contentious than poking fun at religion (the humiliations Christians have been subject to for decades make slights to Islam such as this pale in comparison), for the sake of argument we'll say they are both provocative actions that intentionally court controversy of a potentially violent nature. Would you say then that, had Tiller survived his assassination and instead a bystander had been injured, you hope the family of the injured bystander would sue Tiller? Would you accuse him, rather than the shooter, of sacrificing the lives of innocent others?

Extending beyond the morality of the issues at hand, this is yet another example of how Islam and the WEIRDO (Western, educated, industrialized, rich, democratic, outbred) world are incompatible. Fortunately, there are more than fifty majority Muslim nations that practitioners can go to if they feel that Western societies are too unwelcoming of their practices or too degenerate for them to tolerate.

Post-Christian America, continued

That 1-in-5 American adults and 1-in-3 under the age of 30 claim no religious affiliation naturally leads to the question of whether this is a reflection of declining religious piety in the US or a product of social cocooning and a distaste for organized religion without any meaningful corresponding decline in the belief in an Abrahamic, monotheistic God. Even if it is the latter (and my best guess now is that the former provides the predominant explanation, something I didn't used to think to be the case), it's hard to imagine how stripping away the communal, social, repetitive aspect of expressed, organized religion and instead relegating it to the position of internal, individualized personal beliefs leads to anything other than a decline in the influence of its tenets and mores (ie, same-sex marriage*).

The following graph shows the percentages of all American adults and those under the age of 30 who attend religious services no more than once a year. Note this doesn't even allow for attendance on both Christmas and Easter, so these are effectively people with zero spiritual connection to any organized religion:

Coming of age in the mid-nineties, the generational cohort I'm a part of is the last one in which most members will have the shared experience of some sort of religious destination as part of their upbringings. In the next few years, those who attend religious services will be in the minority, as is already the case with young adults.

Dear black friends: I need you to respect what white America is feeling right now

Dear Black America,

It is somewhat strange to address this to you, given that I’ve been told my whole life that race is just a social construct or that, at most, it is no more than skin deep, and I have had little choice but to imbibe a good deal of your popular culture growing up. Yet today is another day you have forced me to decide who I identify with—and, as always when you force me—I fall decidedly on the side of “Western Civilization”.

Every comment or post I have read today voicing some version of disdain or indignation for anyone critical of the feral behavior on display in Baltimore—“You are perpetuating white supremacy” or “Your ability to ignore the real situation is a mark of your privilege” or “You can’t understand the internalized oppression people of color suffer” or “Racist cops!” or “whites have also rioted before”—tell me that your concerns do not extend beyond rationalizing and deflecting. I am not asking you to condone or agree with public order. You don’t have to say anything. Please just let me tell you what I see:

I see an unrestrained underclass incapable of building or maintaining a functioning society eagerly looting and pillaging that society on the flimsiest of pretexts

I see the consequences of a growing number of unskilled people in an American job market that increasingly has no use for them, consequences accentuated by uncontrolled immigration

I see disorganized, irresponsible mothers desperately trying to fill paternal roles they are incapable of adequately fulfilling on their own

I see the conflagration being kindled by an Establishment that presumes straight white men are explicitly guilty until proven innocent and implicitly guilty irrespective of the evidence

I see those flames of resentment being stoked by an Establishment that treats blacks who suffer at the hands of authority figures as sacred beings beyond reproach no matter how inappropriate, illegal, and dangerous the actions and behaviors leading to said suffering has been

I see the gross double standards for behavior that allow blacks to do and say with impunity things that cause whites who do and say the same things to be purged from their jobs and excommunicated from polite society

If you not looking at crime rates empirically, not engaging in candid conversations about human population differences, not paying attention to how blatantly false the official narratives so often are, then you are perpetuating vicious racial hatreds by blaming everything on white America. That Trayvon Martin was being punched by George Zimmerman, that Michael Brown had his hands up when he was shot, that excessive force was used to subdue Eric Garner, that Walter Scott was hunted down in cold blood, that a racist white cop is being charged with second-degree murder in the death of Eddie Gray are all perceptions that are both widely believed and demonstrably false. This mendacity affects lives every day. We would be prudent to consider it all the time rather than, say, none of the time.

According to the Cathedral’s doctrine of racism as white Original Sin, even if you have striven to cleanse yourself of your white privilege by partaking in self-flagellating acts of penance, voting for Barack Obama, emphasizing your Jewish heritage, and supporting perpetual wealth transfers from (other) whites to non-whites, you cannot escape the shade of your skin. Being a business managing, heterosexual, college-educated Midwestern white male from a middle class background places me near the bottom of the victimization pyramid. Quotas, PR departments, and PC etiquette dictate that despite being worse than useless when it comes to gaining anyone any points for diversity, I nonetheless be forever prepared to give and never to take. This necessarily gives me little recourse but to turn my back on a society that despises me when it’s not trying to despoil me.

For most of my childhood, I actively tried to keep race from being a defining factor in my social affairs. I find this an increasingly difficult position to maintain, given the reality of biological differences between people and, by extension, groups of people. Because I have to worry about my son’s safety or my wife’s well being if either of them find themselves among large numbers of blacks or in areas that are predominately black. Because people react to my sagacious, industrious, intelligent father differently, depending on whether they are aspiring entrepreneurs or parasitic bums. Race has come to influence the way I see the world because race has so much influence on how the world works.
